Pictures great help. Lots of different types of quilting. Recommended for new quilters. For more advanced quilters it is a good review.
This short freebie read is a great simplistic introduction for beginners just learning the ropes of quilting. I like the beautifully vibrant and bold up close illustrations and step by step easy to follow directions, which therefore makes quilting easy for all the newbies out there. I'd highly recommend to anyone searching for a nice read that you can use your creativity and even perhaps make gifts for others for the upcoming holiday season. It's given me more ideas to make the season a little more heartwarming all around.
Excellent. Even though I am a quilter I have not been able to work at it for 7 years due to family commitments. I wanted to review and found your book helpful. I like that you emphasize safety. I thought basic quilting many years ago and always told my students to be oh so careful. My brother stepped on a straight pin without knowing it and it went all the way into his foot. My Dad couldn't find it and assumed that he just got pricked. Several months later it worked its way through the top of his foot. It caused a great deal of pain and infection.
It is hard to find quilting books for beginners. Most beginner quilting books I have read (or tried to read, LOL) use terminology that makes me wish I had a sewing dictionary handy. This book is a refreshing change for me! It gives an overview of quilting from cutting your pieces to binding your quilt, all in language that is easy to understand, even for the novice sewer. It also touches on machine quilting, which is something brand-new for me. It has wonderful color pictures (if your reading device supports color) that help illustrate the instructions. It has helpful tips throughout the book that even a seasoned quilter might find useful. If you are wanting detailed instructions on a specific quilting pattern, this is not the book for you. If you want to understand the fundamentals of quilting from start to finish, then this book is a great resource! This books is definitely a keeper!

I was happy to learn that there are ebooks available for quilting. I really wanted to get for my mother the latest in the magazines but I am not sure if we'd be able to enlarge the parts she would need to see.
I have done some quilting, some hand and some sewing machine and prefer the hand method. Always looking to find new things to learn to make things easier.
Lots of tips throughout the book to help even the experienced quilters.
Excellent source of information about how to start the quilt-cutting the fabric, sewing it, etc to putting the batting in. Even the different methods of assembling it together.
Several illustrations to show you how to do certain things are very helpful.
I picked this ebook up on a recent free promo. I quilt, and thought this would be a good resource for my quilting library.
This is a short book. It is a very basic introduction to quilting. To it's credit, it has good quality pictures. I recommend a color reader for this book, black and white does not bring up the pictures as well. The text is minimal which makes this simple to follow and easy to understand. All the basics are covered - hand sewing, machine sewing, cutting, layout, assembling, and putting together a basic patchwork quilt. I think this would not confuse anyone just picking up on quilting, and would make a good first quilting introduction to the younger crowd. I would have liked to see just a bit more - some history, some examples of the other kinds of quilting, like applique, and a bit more about basic quilt patterns - 9 block etc. It covers the bare minimum. Nice, and good if free.
There are plenty of close up photographs of how-to quilting basics presented in this book to allow beginners to feel confident as they assemble materials and begin to cut and sew their first quilt projects.
Hand piecing of quilt blocks and machine piecing techniques are covered including the English paper piecing technique which is shown for the Grandmother's Flower Garden pattern which is made up of small hexagon shapes. The close ups of each technique are detailed, but would be best viewed on a color-capable or application in order to see all of the details. Pressing and cutting tips are given with an overview of using rotary techniques and equipment.
Assembling of the "quilt sandwich" with fabric, batting, and backing is discussed and illustrated. Marking the quilt top, hand quilting and machine quilting are discussed as well as a mention of tied quilts as an alternative to traditional quilting as a finish. Again, lots of detailed photographs of each step are shown. Binding the finished quilt with self-binding or bias binding completes the project.
Most of the sources at the end of the book are listings for UK companies with a few US and Australian companies, but finding local sources should not be difficult for most readers using the Internet as a starting place.
A nice touch is the addition of a link to the author's website for full-sized templates for the projects discussed in the book.
